A bit about me

My name is Jane. I was sixty in January. I've been married twice, once at 23 and then the second time at 50 - but find myself living alone now. Things have been looking up in the romance department more recently, but I'll get to that later.
But, here's the thing, I decided that I was going to make the absolute best of everything. I have been a carer for someone in my life since I was ten years old, -alcoholic mother, husband (I'll leave you to fill in the adjective here as I share in weeks to come!), demented mother in law, adopted children- and suddenly at 60, the last child left home, I was no longer responsible for parents, and I am free to have a go at other things. Sadly, not super free, like the woman in Eat, Pray, Love, with the financial wherewithal to be completely self indulgent and skip off to Italy and India to find myself. I'm no rich divorcee - came away with nothing from both marriages, and I need to pay the rent, and so keep my job. But I can have some fun and grow.
So I decided to apply for a degree - fortunately my employer is willing to support my doing this as an apprenticeship. My Student Union Card and my Senior Rail card arrived in the post on the same day! I felt an huge excitement as I arrived at a Cambridge college for the first 'Uni Day" of my apprenticeship.. Obviously I am the oldest on the course, but so what!
Will let you know all about it as time goes on.I
have no idea about blogging, or whether this will actually be read by anyone at all, I'm sure I've missed a few steps. But hey ho, it's already making me feel good writing it! More soon...
